A surgeon that specializes in surgeries of the mouth can remove these teeth or your general dentist. Dr. Alcorn is a general dentist with 25 years of experience and has done many surgical extractions. Upon your visit to our office, discuss your dental needs with Dr. Alcorn as he will may be able to accomodate you at an affordable cost. The most common surgical extractions are the wisdom teeth or the third molars. Some people have room in their mouth for wisdom teeth, but most often they are impacted, angled incorrectly, or causing pressure on other teeth as the mouth does not have room for them. Often, impacted wisdom teeth create problems such as pain, facial swelling, bacteria and plaque build-up, tumor development, and jaw and gum disease. Early removal of wisdom teeth that x-rays show to be impacted is suggested to avoid undesirable symptoms. Teeth that have extensive decay or have broken below the gumline will often need to be surgically extracted. The decay has weakened the tooth structure. Teeth that have been broken below the gumline are hard to access and often are removed in sections. If you need a surgical extraction and feel anxious about the procedure, please see our "Sedation Dentistry" page.
